This may not look like a very exciting picture, but it’s SUPER exciting for us 🥳

We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded 4* GOLD from Quality in Tourism!  This is the largest accreditation body in the UK working in travel, tourism and hospitality….so they know what they are taking about 😆

They summarised our business as follows…

“Coastal Cabins have achieved a Four Star accreditation rating. Standards observed were of a consistently high level across all areas of the accommodation and this along with excellent housekeeping standards has ensured that a Gold Award for the cabins has also been confirmed.”

With an overall score of 84% we were just 3% short of 5* status.  The score was calculated by assessing our business in areas such as first impressions of the site, safety, website, guest experience, housekeeping, interior design, quality of beds and furnishings, bathrooms and kitchens and so much more.

We’re particularly proud of our score of 98% for housekeeping, and in their words our “GREAT Instagram!” 🙌😜

Everyone’s heard of the North Coast 500 in Scotland.  Have you been?  It’s been on my bucket list for a while now…but everything i’ve read says it just gets soooo busy.

Well i’ve got an alternative for you.  If you’ve looking for the perfect adventure this summer then explore the Atlantic Highway. It’s one of the UK’s most scenic road trips. Named the best road trip route in the UK by a recent survey, this is one to add to the list!

The Atlantic Highway, the A39, is a stunning road trip route that stretches along the north coast of Devon and Cornwall. Renowned for its breath-taking coastal scenery, charming villages, and iconic landmarks, the Atlantic Highway offers a memorable journey

This vast 170-mile road is famed for its jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic Ocean along the way.

The Atlantic Highway takes in Barnstaple. From here, the road winds its way along the coast, passing through picturesque countryside and seaside towns.

One of the first notable stops along the route is Bideford, a historic port town known for its charming quayside, narrow streets, and the iconic Bideford Long Bridge. Take a stroll along the waterfront or visit the Burton Art Gallery and Museum for a dose of culture.

Continuing along the Atlantic Highway, you’ll come across the idyllic village of Clovelly. Famous for its steep cobbled streets and traditional fishing harbour, Clovelly offers a glimpse into a bygone era. Explore the village, visit the local shops, and enjoy the panoramic coastal views.

As you venture further, you’ll reach the rugged and unspoiled Hartland Peninsula. (The home of Coastal Cabins!) This area is home to dramatic cliffs, secluded beaches, and the historic Hartland Abbey. Stop by the Hartland Quay for breath-taking views or embark on a coastal walk to experience the area’s natural beauty.

You’ll then hop over the border into Cornwall into Bude, which is a popular seaside resort town known for its sandy beaches and vibrant surf scene. Take a dip in the sea, try your hand at surfing, or enjoy a leisurely walk along the South West Coast Path. Stop off at some of Cornwall’s incredible beaches, and if you’re seeking an adventure you can try your hand at some of the water sports available.

Exploring the South West can make for one of the most memorable holidays in the UK, and with so many incredible destinations in Devon to visit. A road trip along the coast is the perfect way to explore the rugged coastline, picturesque villages and take in the rich maritime history.

Book your stay at Coastal Cabins and have an adventure.

I’m not usually one to wish away time, but here at Coastal Cabins we’re already looking forward to Spring.  We open our doors just in time for the Easter break.

It’s a great time to visit North Devon!  Here’s our top 5 tips for Easter fun in North Devon:

1. Take a stroll on the deserted beaches and grab a takeaway hot chocolate to take with you.  Our picks are the National Trust Café at Sandy Mouth, John’s Deli in Instow, The Porthole in Woolacoombe but there are plenty!

2. Visit one of the award winning local theme parks.  Feed the lambs and meet the animals at The Big Sheep. Visit the Easter Grotto at The Milky Way and journey down the rabbit hole to meet the Easter Bunny.

3. Find the Easter chicks that are hiding all around Clovelly.  The stunning views, peaceful tranquility and cobbled, traffic free high street in this world famous fishing village is not to be missed.

4. Join the Easter Trails at a number of National Trust locations across North Devon.  Enjoy nature inspired activities for the whole family – follow the clues for a chocolate egg at the end! Our top tip is to visit Baggy Point where you might catch sight of some seals.

5. Meet the Easter Bunny and search for the GIANT easter eggs at RHS Rosemoor.  Find them all and get a chocolate prize. TIP: the café is definitely worth visiting and the 2 play areas are great.

After what might feel like a long winter  this might be just the break you need!

We have a few Family Cabins left.  They sleep 2 adults and 2 children + baby and has its own en suite and kitchenette.  Perfect for a family break!

The temperatures are rising and the next few weeks looks like it’s going to be HOT  #heatwave.  I am super excited as there’s nothing better than a family day at the beach 🙂

We are very fortunate at Coastal Cabins to have a huge coast line FULL of superb beaches.  Whether you’re looking for deserted hidden coves or large expanses of sand – there’s a perfect beach for everyone.

Here’s our pick of the top 5 buggy friendly beaches near @coastalcabins

The closest beach to Coastal Cabins is Hartland Quay.  Just 5 mins away, even the drive down to the car park is a view you’ll never forget.  There’s a concrete slipway that leads all the way to the beach making it easy for buggies and little ones.  There are rocks, so abandon the buggy at the bottom set up camp.  With loos, a pub and little shop (ice creams!) it’s a great spot for a paddle.

A 15 min drive south down the Atlantic Highway and turn off to Sandy Mouth.  A National Trust beach (with free parking if you’re a member!) it’s beautifully maintained.  There’s a good step free path right down to the beach where you’ll find miles of uninterrupted sand.  With loos and an excellent café it’s picture perfect.

20 mins in the other direction takes you to Instow.  A pretty sailing village on the estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet.  There’s a stunning sandy beach with the added bonus of sand dunes for the kids to let off some steam.  Completely flat with a seafront promenade and good selection of eateries and ice cream sellers.  Visit @johnsdeli for seaside picnic fare, or @theboathouse for dining with THAT view. Pop on the ferry across to the fishing village of Appledore for some crabbing!

30 mins drive and you are treated to all the wonderful beaches of Bude. Crooklets and Summerleaze are right in the town centre making them super accessible.  Both have easy access car parks and flat paths to the sandy beaches.  Pop to @lifesabeach for family friendly relaxed beachside dining.

Travel a bit further along the North Devon coast and you’ll be rewarded with the vast expanses of sand at Saunton Sands, Croyde or Woolacombe. This part of the coast is about a 45min-1hr drive and traffic can get very busy during the peak summer.  If visiting off peak or getting up early in the morning then this is a great option for an all day beach session.  All are easily accessible and have loos, cafés, surf hire and basically everything you’d need.

Book your stay @coastalcabins today and explore all the beaches for yourself!

Although it’s nice to think that the weather in Devon is always sunny and bright, we do have the odd rainy day! What better way to fill the time than head to the shops to pick up some bargains.

Just a 20 min drive from Coastal Cabins is Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping Village. All 30 shops are under cover so you can keep warm and dry.

My top picks are the huge Next, Clarks Shoes(brilliant for school shoes!), Crew Clothing Company for your smart casuals, SaltrockSoul for you surf dude wear and Mountain Warehouse for your waterproofs!

Pick up a pasty Cornish Bakery (the vegan curry one is amazing!!) or a coffee Costa Coffee.

During the school holidays there’s also FREE entertainment for the little ones. Over Easter there’s giant bubble blowing, face painting and craft workshops.

Last but certainly not least is arguably the best soft play in the area! World of Wonder Devon is the perfect place to entertain the kids for a few hours. Maybe drop them off with the other half whilst you shop? (It is your holiday too!!)

The Royal Horticultural Society has just 5 gardens open to the public, one of these is just 30mins from Coastal Cabins near Torrington.

Rosemoor is a great day out. With an excellent restaurant, 2 play areas and of course the most stunning formal and informal gardens, it’s more than just a garden.

I’m a member and visit Rosemoor regularly. Throughout the year they have different events such as a giant egg hunt at Easter, stunning sculpture exhibitions in the summer and the glow light show at Christmas.

We seem to have started a bit of a tradition and have been for my mums birthday for 2 years running. Despite my badly sprained ankle (they have wheelchairs you can borrow!) we headed over yesterday and had a lovely time.

Whether you’re a surfing pro or a complete novice, North Devon is the perfect place for a surfing holiday.

Westward Ho! is the home of @northdevonsurfschool . Teaching surfing since 1988 and located just 50 metres from the huge sandy beach this is a popular choice for beginners.

Bude has a huge choice of surf schools due to its selection of stunning sandy beaches. We recommend @bigbluesurfschool who have been teaching for 20 years. Bude is also just a fab place to visit!

Slightly further afield also try @surfsaunton and @surfingcroyde

A day trip to Cornwall today! @coastalcabins is really near the Cornish border so it’s a great location for exploring both Devon and Cornwall.

Bude is only 25 mins drive and definitely worth a trip, but today we went a bit further to Port Issac. We love it there but hadn’t been for ages! It’s a picture perfect Cornish fishing village made famous by the tv show Doc Martin. Have you seen it?

Then we headed back to the cabins for a quick freshen up before tucking into the most amazing Mother’s Day feast at Pattard Kitchen. It’s family friendly fine dining within walking distance of your cabin 🥳

We were planning to head home today but we just don’t want to leave! So we’ve decided to stay tonight and head off early tomorrow. It’ll be a bit of a rush to get Paige to school, Cora to nursery and Howard to work all before 9am, but totally worth it for another sunset here ❤️

We have packed it in today! The girls slept so well last night. I was a bit worried we might be cold in the night as it is only March, but we didn’t even need the heating on!

After a little wander around the lake chatting to the resident geese we drove into Hartland village. It’s just 1.5 miles from the cabins and has some really good pubs and a local shop. We popped into the café on the square for coffee which was great!

Then just 5 mins in the car to Hartland Quay. I absolutely love it here 🥰 The dramatic cliffs and crystal clear sea is just breathtaking. A quick splash in the sea (it’s surprisingly warm!) and then back in the car for 10 mins to one of my favourite pubs The Farmers Arms Woolsery for lunch.

We decided to head back to the cabins for a few hours in the afternoon to relax and enjoy the sunshine. It’s so peaceful on the cabin deck overlooking the lake. We took it in turns to wear out the girls by chasing them around the tennis court on their scooters and roller skates 🛼👍

The girls went for a sleepover at grandmas whilst we went to Westward Ho to meet friends for dinner. The Thai food Morans Restaurant & Bar is brilliant!

I’m so glad we made the last minute decision to come here for the weekend. 🥰

Come and see it for yourself!

You really can’t beat North Devon in the sunshine 🥰 We’ve had a brilliant time @coastalcabins so far!

We picked Paige up from school and headed straight down the Atlantic Highway. A quick pit stop in Woolsery to pick up the best fish and chips I’ve had in years and then onto the Cabins. We arrived just in time to eat them whilst watching the sunset over the lake.

Check out our stories to see all of our adventures. If you’re coming to stay @coastalcabins this summer then you’ll find it super handy. I’ve saved it all to our highlights under “Hols 22”

Come and stay @coastalcabins this summer!

A bit last minute but we’ve decided to stay @coastalcabins this weekend!!

The weather looks amazing so I’m planning lots of beach trips, coastal walks and pub garden lunches 🥳

We’re staying in Sandymouth Cabin. One of my favourites right by the lake with the best views. Paige is super excited (mainly about the bunk beds 😆) and is packing her bags as we speak.

I’ll share all of our adventures on Instagram stories so keep an eye out for loads of handy tips for your future stays @coastalcabins

Enjoy a break away this spring/summer.

You don’t see that every day! A letter from our local MP on fancy House of Commons paper. What a lovely surprise 🥰

Just a reminder that we open on Friday 1st April. We are donating 50% of all sales from our opening weekend to the DEC Ukraine Appeal. So book a break away and help 🇺🇦

Enjoy the sunshine everyone

We’ve got a lot to celebrate here at Coastal Cabins! In just two weeks we’ll be opening our doors for the 2022 season. This time last year we weren’t allowed to welcome our guests!

So to celebrate the start of our season and also our recent win at the Devon Tourism Awards we are offering 10% off ALL remaining* cabin stays throughout the month of APRIL!

If you’re looking for a little break away then we’d love to see you. Prices start at just £405 for 4 nights for a family of 4 in a Family Cabin.

All 10 of our cabins have heating, en suite shower rooms, kitchenettes and private decks. You’ll also have free use of the fishing lake and BBQ cabin which is perfect for all weather dining. Why not add on a session in the wild spa hot tub area for a special treat!

*This offer is valid for new bookings only.

Getting our cabins ready for the season ahead is a good distraction from what’s happening in the world. But no matter how much we busy ourselves with painting and cleaning and emails we just can’t stop thinking about the people of Ukraine and how they need our help.

Our friends and colleagues at @brackenhillglamping have had the brilliant idea to donate 50% of all their sales from their opening weekend to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). We are going to do the same and we encourage other accommodation businesses to join us.

We open for the 2022 season on 1st April. If we fill all 10 of our cabins that will be £2595 raised for the DEC. Book a weekend away arriving @coastalcabins on Friday 1st April and help us raise money for Ukraine.

North Devon’s capital Barnstaple is often overlooked. A place to drive through on your way to the stunning golden coast. But it has a lot of hidden gems, you just need to know where to look!

My top tip has to be Butcher’s Row. As the name suggests it was once a terrace of butchers shops, but it’s now packed with some of the regions finest food outlets.

Bordering the Panier Market (which dates back to the 1800s) you’ll find the best local cheese in @southwestcheese and the finest beers and spirits @thecraftybeershop (who also do fab cocktails and sharing platters!)

If you need a pit stop then book into @eatatblock for the yummiest asian inspired food. Or if you fancy a coffee and sandwich try @artisarni. Need something sweet, head to @thecupcakerybarnstaple. There’s something for everyone!
Another tip – if the kids needs to burn off all that sugar then head to Rock Park. A pretty park by the River Taw. Paige is a big fan of the zip wire!
Our cabins are just a 30 min drive from Barnstaple and the perfect base to explore both North Devon and North Cornwall.

We’re not the only ones who think Hartland is amazing, even on a wet and windy day like today! The breathtaking beaches, stunning cliff formations and idyllic valleys have captured the hearts of location scouts from around the world. More than 30 films and TV productions have been filmed in the Hartland area.

Have you seen the latest film adaptation of Rebecca staring Lily James on Netflix? The production company built a brand new boathouse on the slipway and turned Hartland Quay Hotel into a 1940s high street.

Also have you seen the episode of Top Gear when they throw a Citroen off a cliff? Yup you guessed it, that was in Hartland!

Sense and Sensibility, The Night Manager, Antiques Roadshow, Mallory Towers, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society…there’s been a few.

Anyone a fan of Game of Thrones? Keep an eye out for Hartland in the prequel called House of the Dragon that’s due to be aired later this year.

Come and see all that our beautiful area has to offer for yourself!

What a way to start the week! We’ve just found out that @coastalcabins is a finalist in the 2021/22 Devon Tourism Awards. To say we are excited would be an understatement.

Now we have to wait a whole month to find out who has won. Wish us oodles of luck!

A big thank you to the judges @swtourismawards and to the award sponsors Anytime Booking and @qualityintourism

There’s a real feel of Spring in the air this week! When the sun popped out this weekend we headed over to Croyde for some serious sandcastle making and shell collecting.

Just under an hour from @coastalcabins Croyde is a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon. The beach is just stunning, with the perfect mix of sand for sandcastles, and rock pools for hunting down sea creatures.

A 5 minute walk from the beach is a picture perfect Devon village filled with thatched pubs and brilliant cafés. In the summer months there’s also a variety of food vans serving up everything from Sri Lankan curries, to wood fired pizzas and mouth watering chicken burgers. It’s a foodie haven!

Last weekend we met up with some friends for a walk to the beach at Bucks Mills.

I love this place. It feels like every step you take down the narrow valley road you’re going back in time by hundreds of years.

Just a 5-10min drive from @coastalcabins it’s a great place to visit during your stay. There’s no pubs or shops or any facilities really at all, that that’s what makes it so beautiful. It’s completely unspoilt and beautifully quiet.

Drive into the village just off the A39 Atlantic highway and park at the free car park on the right. Then choose from a woodland walk on your right, or a stroll down to the beach.

Then jump back into the car and head just a few minutes to a local pub to warm up with a Sunday roast and a local ale (like we did!) I can highly recommend The Farmers Arms Woolsery or The Hoops Inn.

Have you been to Bucks Mills? Let us know in the comments below.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. There’s so much work in the run up to Christmas and then it’s all over in such a flash!

We went over to Hartland for Christmas Day and stayed with Mum and Dad. It was so lovely and also great to be able to pop over and visit the cabins too!

It’s always so strange to see them empty over the winter as I’m so used to them being enjoyed by families on holiday! Still it was lovely to take 10 mins out and have a little walk around the lake on my own.

We’re already booked in for a few trips to @coastalcabins in 2022. I wanted to make sure we got it all planned before you lovely lot booked them all up 😆

If you’re thinking of a trip away this year then please do think of us! We’ve still got some availability during the main holidays, however they do get snapped up first.

If you’re not sure which cabin to book, or if you have any questions at all then please do give us a shout on our DMs.

Ok so I’ve still got stuff to do.…but this morning the sun came out and I decided to ignore all of that and take the girls to the beach. Sometimes I feel like the sea is just calling me!

We went over to Woolacombe and it was absolutely stunning 🤩 You’re probably used to seeing pictures of Woolacombe absolutely packed full of tourists on a bank holiday weekend. Well there were about a dozen of us.

Ok so it wasn’t perfect (don’t always believe the pictures 😆). Cora lost her welly and we had to change our hot chocolate order at the beach to a takeaway because I got all Covid panicky. BUT it was a million percent better than braving the shops with everyone else in the country.

Today I’m feeling very lucky to live in this beautiful corner of the country. Come and explore it for yourself and book your family holiday today.

It’s nice to wrap up and light the fire on these wintry days. But I have to admit I’m most definitely a summer person! The crazy winds and rain of the past few weeks has made me hanker for lazy sunny sunsets and fish and chips on the beach.

In late September we made the most of those last warm evenings as much as possible. One evening after Paige’s swimming lesson we zoomed down to Ilfracombe harbour.

Have you ever been? It’s a magical spot to while away a few hours. Potter around the independent shops and galleries, grab a coffee and watch the fishing boats come in. Damien Hursts ‘Verity’ statue is worth a visit and so is the lovely walk up to the tiny St Nicholas Church on the hill.

Or like us, you can just pick up some fish and chips and watch the world go by as the sun sets over the harbour. Bliss…

Don’t miss out and book your family holiday today with just a 25% deposit and the balance not due until 6 weeks before you stay.

With just a few short days left of our season I wanted to share this review we were recently sent.

It’s comments like this that have really kept us going over the last crazy 6 months. We’ve had the most amazing feedback and we are so grateful to have had so many truly lovely guests @coastalcabins this year.

Bring on Summer 2022!

If you’re thinking of visiting us next year then we still have some availability. This year the school holidays were fully booked by January so if you want the pick of the best cabins and dates then take a look.

Crickey it’s been a busy few weeks. I don’t know about you but i’ve spent a lot of time catching up on all the work and life admin that got a bit neglected over the summer holidays. How do children manage to take up 100% of your energy?!

I hope you’re all well and getting back into some kind of routine again. The last week has been a mad dash to complete our entry into the @visitbritain Devon Tourism Awards. So please wish us lots and lots of luck. If you’ve stayed with us this summer then don’t forget to pretty please leave a Google review as the judges take these into consideration for our scores! Eek.

Also just a heads up that we close our doors for the end of our season in just 2 WEEKS time. I can’t quite believe where the time has gone.

p.s. the sun is still shining here!!

We certainly packed a lot into our 4 days @coastalcabins. Now I think I need another holiday to recover 😂. The weather was pretty awful, but we really did make the most of being away.

We kicked things off with a trip to @affinity_devon en route to @coastalcabins. School shoes for Paige from @clarksshoes and a last min @asda shop. I also made a sneaky trip to see the new @josiesinteriorsoutlet to drool over their lovely housewares.

On the first day we visited the Bude Leisure Centre for a swim (great slide and super fun wave machine!) followed by the fab park nearby.

We were lucky enough to have a few excellent meals out too. This time we visited @thehartinn in the village just 1.5 miles away. The lamb was brilliant and the play area was super handy! Then to @pattardrestaurant – family friendly fine dining just 5 mins walk from our cabin.

I thoroughly recommend bringing the grandparents too. Super exciting was our grown up night out to a foodie/music festival @paul.ainsworth.travellingfeast whilst the girls had a sleepover with Grandma and Grandad! We also managed a few child free moments including a dip in the Wild Spa Hot Tub @coastalcabins one evening 🥰.

The next day we drove 5 miles down the road to the beautiful @clovellyvillage where Paige met the donkeys and we ate pasty’s on the beach.

To cap it all off we did a family walk along the @swcoastpath from @hartlandquay (my fave place!) to the stunning Speke’s Mill waterfall. Not to be missed!

To see all of this then head to our Stories and click on ‘Our Hols 3’ and ‘Our Hols 3.1’ on instagram.

A few weeks ago we had a cancellation for Widemouth Bay cabin, so I quickly snapped it up for our little family! 😍  We’ve stayed a few times over the past 18 months and despite being my business it’s also become a little haven for us as a family.  We only live 45 mins away in Braunton, but @coastalcabins feels like a million miles away.

Paige has been so excited and peak excitement hit when she found out that this time we were in a cabin with a BUNK BED 😂  We’ve got lots of days out, beach trips and pub lunches planned. So keep an eye on our stories for lots of holiday inspiration.

If you miss anything then check out ‘Our Holiday 3’ on instagram highlights. (Our Holiday 1 & 2 are pretty handy too!)

Have a lovely week – wish you were here!

We are giving ourselves a big pat on the back today after reaching a whopping 100 reviews on Google!

This represents years and years of super hard work. We have poured so much love and energy into our little business. It’s so heart warming to read everyones lovely comments.

Thank you all for taking the time to leave a review and we hope to see you all again soon!

If you are thinking of booking a stay @coastalcabins then please take a moment to read our customer comments. If you are already booked to stay with us then take a look too as there’s lots of really handy hints and tips for your stay.

👉 Just type ‘Coastal Cabins Reviews’ into Google

We close for the end of the season on the 30th September, but there are still a few spaces for a late summer stay.

Do you feel free? I for one won’t be rushing to the nightclubs, but let’s be honest that’s probably more due to having 2 little ones that currently won’t sleep because “it’s toooo hot”.

However there are a few changes that we will be implementing on our site. The most important one being that from today (Monday 19th July), our beloved BBQ cabin will be re-opening!

This is a communal area and does not need to be booked. However please be respectful to others and limit your use to allow everyone to use this facility. Some people (including me!) are still very unsure about being part of a large group, so please bear this in mind on site.

For those who would prefer not to use the BBQ cabin then we are continuing to provide each cabin with its own small BBQ for use on your own deck.

Just because Boris has said we can go back to normal we assure you we will not be slacking off in the cleaning department. Our super strict Covid cleaning measures are still in place and to be honest always will be.

Oh and last but not least, if you are visiting us over the next few months then I would HIGHLY recommend booking restaurants/pubs as soon as possible. Due to the increasing number of people being pinged to isolate, and Brexit, there are some serious staff shortages in hospitality.

As always, if you have any questions at all please drop us a message!

If you’re keen to get away then we still have spaces @coastalcabins in September.

Normally we release our calendar for next year at the end of the season….(Mainly because July and August usually fly by in a bit of a blur of cleaning and laundry 😆)

BUT we’ve had so many requests from you all asking to book for 2022 we’ve decided to release our calendar a bit earlier. It seems you all want to get super organised this year!

You may notice that we’ve made a few small changes. The main one being that we are no longer taking short breaks over the peak summer holidays.

My lovely parents have decided to take a step back from the everyday running of @coastalcabins. The last 2 years have been tough with all the Covid measures and stresses. Plus after 37 years in the holiday lettings business I think we can all agree they deserve a break!

This means that next year poor old me will be doing much more! With 2 little ones trailing around after me i’ve decided that 2 changeovers a week over the school holidays might just finish me off 😳.

Plus there’s SO much to do in and around @coastalcabins that we’re positive you’ll want to stay with us that little bit longer!

Have you seen the forecast?! This weekend and next week it’s going to scorching. At flipping last! For you lucky ones who are visiting us over this little heatwave, here’s our pick of the best beaches near @coastalcabins

*Hartland Quay

If you’ve been stuck in a hot car with screaming children for what feels like eternity, and you don’t want to go far, then this is the beach for you. Just 2 miles from your cabin door and easy to get to, there are public toilets and a pub. Perfect for rockpooling and climbing. Less perfect for sandcastles and pushchairs.

*Sandy Mouth

This is the nearest super sandy beach to @coastalcabins. Run by the National Trust it’s sparkling clean and beautiful. There’s a car park (get there early!), a nice cafe and loos. Perfect for sandcastles and a some rock pooling too.

*The Bude Beaches

Travel a little but further south on the Atlantic Highway and you’ll reach the lovely coastal town of Bude (worth a visit!). There are 2 stunning sandy beaches in Bude itself (Crooklets and Summerleaze) and another beauty a bit further along at Widemouth Bay. Perfect for sandy beach fun and eating out (they are right by the town centre). The Bude Sea Pool is also worth a dip!

*Westward Ho!

Head in the opposite direction North up the Atlantic Highway and after about 20mins you’ll reach Westward Ho! A coastal resort with all of the arcades and crazy golf you’d expect. But don’t forget the huge sandy beach and selection of great eateries too. If you’re facing towards the sea then head to the left along the promenade for rock pools and a pretty well hidden sea pool. If you see the Hockings Ice Cream Van then DO NOT leave without getting one.

*A bit further

If you’re @coastalcabins for the week then you might want to explore a bit further along the cost. Around 45mins to 1hr and you’ll stumble upon the vast sandy expanses at Saunton Sands, Croyde, Woolacombe, Putsborough. Basically it’s just beaches as far as you can see. They are all stunning so just take your pick and you can’t go wrong!

This has been Paige’s first year at school, which has also meant our first year of being restricted to travelling in the school holidays ☹️.

But for us the peak holiday season is a busy time, so we prefer going on little short breaks at other times of the year. My favourite time for a weekend break is definitely September.

The weather is often just as good as July and August (if not better!). The sea is toasty warm and perfect for little ones. Plus it’s quieter. Oh and did I mention it’s cheaper!

We’re fully booked @coastalcabins for the peak summer months, but there’s still a few spaces in Sunny September.

If the last few weeks has taught us anything, it’s that the weather in England can be temperamental to say the least!

So what is there to do around here when it’s raining? Here’s our top 5:

1. Some may say this is cheating…but our first suggestion is to go to the beach! The old saying, ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’ is very true. Waterproofs are the BEST.

2. If you haven’t got any waterproofs then hot foot it over to @affinity_devon and visit @mountainwarehouse and @trespass. For those of the non-waterproofs persuasion there’s also @ukgap, @nike, @crewclothing, @clarksshoes and more. Although if you have a young daughter then do NOT to mention there’s a @_claires_accessories_ 😂

3. Go to a pub. There’s nothing more English than sheltering from the god awful English weather in a traditional English pub. Eat, drink and be merry in one of the 4 great pubs in our local village of Hartland such as @thehartinn or @hartlandquay

4. Remember when you could just spend all day in the pub? If you have little angels that won’t let you do that anymore (boo!) then there’s always soft play. After over a year of no soft play I actually miss it a tiny bit. Little Stars @themilkyway is excellent, and WOW World of Wonders at the aforementioned @affinity_devon is also fantastic!

5. If you’re not brave enough to embrace getting even wetter and colder by going in the sea (you should though – it’s fun!) then why not go swimming indoors. It’s warmer. There’s a fab play pool with waves and a slide at Bude. No kids? Have a spa day at either @wclubbude or the breathtaking @sourcespasaunton

Whatever the weather – book your holiday to remember!

I’ve just had this lovely message from a guest who stayed over the weekend. It made me smile so much that I thought I should share it with you all 🥰

“I just wanted to say thank you.

Coastal Cabins was a lovely little space for us to stay whilst exploring the surrounding coasts.

You provided so much within the cabin which made it feel so homely.

It was super clean and comfy too.

The fishing lake was a bonus for my two boys and they were over the moon they caught a few.

Have a lovely summer.”

Happy holidays everyone!

This pretty much sums up our FAB week @CoastalCabins. If you’ve been following our stories over the past few weeks then you’ll see that we managed to pack lots in!

We started off with a trip to the Hartland Farmers Market to pick up some yummy treats. Then in the evening we made the most of the stunning sunset. When the girls went to bed we jumped in the hot tub with a glass of fizz – well someone had to check it was working ok!

We had lots of BBQs on our deck and Paige fed the geese on the lake SO much that I don’t think they’ll be able to fly anymore.

The next day we took a trip to Bude just over the border in Cornwall. I love Bude! Just 30 mins drive and there’s loads of lovely shops, restaurants and a number of huge sandy beaches.

Another highlight were the yummy lunches out! It was SO nice to sit in the sun and eat a meal that hadn’t been cooked by me.

We also managed to fit in 2 great walks, both just a few miles from @coastalcabins. Both included pit stops for much needed snacks!

Head over to ‘Our Holiday 2’ on our Instagram highlights for lots of holiday ideas. One thing is for sure is that we will all remember our little holiday @coastalcabins forever 🥰

Book your holiday to remember now.

Sorry for the radio silence over the past week. We‘ve been having our own little #staycation!

Cora is 8 months old now and I couldn’t think of a more perfect place to have her first family holiday 🥰. Plus since our cabins holiday last July for Paige’s 4th birthday she’s been begging us to go back!

So…when we got a last minute cancellation for Hartland Quay Cabin over the Easter holidays I snapped it up!

We live only 45 mins away from the cabins (my parents live on site), but Hartland is so peaceful that it feels like a million miles away.

I didn’t post about our trip sooner because we all just needed a week to recharge our batteries. One of the other guests said to me, “I think we needed this more than I realised” and I really couldn’t have agreed more!

BUT I’ve take LOADS of pictures which over the course of this week I’m going to share on our stories.

So keep tuned for lots of ideas for places to go and things to do during your stay @coastalcabins.

I’ve already booked us in for 2 more breaks over the summer 😂 so see you there.

My advice – book a break away. You won’t regret it!

For those of you that don’t already know, I don’t actually live in Hartland. I live in Braunton near my husbands business which is about a 45 min drive from Hartland and Coastal Cabins. Mum and Dad live on site and I spent my first 18 years living over there too.

I’m telling you this because although I love where I live now, sometimes I just need to escape to Hartland. This summer is going to be busy in the South West – there’s no question about that. But Hartland has that clever way of always feeling quiet…peaceful…empty.

Even on a busy August Bank Holiday weekend It can feel like Hartland is yet to be discovered. If you look carefully you’ll find some stunning secluded beaches, and if you’re lucky you may have the place to yourself.

Last weekend we decided that Hartland was calling us. Mum and Dad looked after the girls and we had a whole afternoon just the 2 of us walking the South West Coast Path soaking up the views. We even managed a quick pit stop for some bubbly.

Amongst all the madness going on in the world – we escaped to Hartland!

Why don’t you do the same?

P.s. extra points if you can tell me which famous person stayed in this cottage for their stag do?

Look at this super cool new map of our site designed by the very talented @heythatslovelyprints (proud stepmum moment!) I absolutely LOVE it.

If you’re looking to book a stay at Coastal Cabins then this should help you get a good idea of where all the different cabins are located.

We now have 8 Family Cabins sleeping 2 adults and 2 children of any age in a Kingsize bed and bunk beds.

There are 2 Couples Cabins (Blackpool Mill and Hartland Quay) which sleep 2 adults and 2 small children under 6 in a Kingsize bed and sofa bed.

ALL cabins are the same size and layout, with en-suites, kitchenettes and private decking area. The perfect self contained quirky holiday home.

👉 Bookings can be made online here

We’re very excited to say that we’ve been featured in the Guardian as one of their recommended places to stay this Easter holiday!

That would explain why our emails went CRAZY yesterday.

If you fancy a well deserved break away then book now!

A huge thank you to our friends @hostunusual for giving the Guardian a heads up about us! Please give them a follow as they have some amazing properties listed.

I mean for the last year it’s certainly felt like it has been all about the kids hasn’t it? Homeschooling, trying to make up for them never seeing their friends, the constant guilt that they haven’t had a ‘normal’ life.

Well it’s been tough, and I think it’s about time we all gave ourselves a big pat on the back, and a BREAK. Take a bit of time out and remind yourself what life is like without having to think about someone else 24/7.

Wake up when YOU want. Enjoy lazy breakfasts in bed. Hire the wild spa hot tub and bring a G&T (or three!). Take a stroll on the stunning South West Coast Path without having to worry about the kids walking off the edge. Book in for a romantic meal – not at 5pm! And most importantly have a well deserved REST.

Doesn’t that sound like heaven? If that’s what you need then take a look at our Couples Cabins. Hartland Quay and Blackpool Mill are perfect for a romantic escape. Spacious and airy with Kingsize beds, your own deck with BBQ and stunning views over the field towards the lake.

Due to popular demand we have decided that ready for the 2021 season we are converting 3 of our Couples Cabins into Family Cabins.

If you were looking for a Family break @coastalcabins but there was no availability then NOW is the time to take another look.

But be quick…we are expecting them to be snapped up pretty quick, especially during the school holidays.

All family cabins have a Kingsize bed and bunk beds. They sleep 2 adults and 2 children (plus a tiny baby in your own travel cot if needed). Each cabin had its own kitchenette and ensuite – perfect for a self contained staycation!

We have also increased our flexibility and added the option of a 7 night stay from Monday to Monday.

SO what are you waiting for, book today 🙂

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Will we be able to travel this summer? The government can’t seem to agree on anything (nothing new there then)! Some ministers have already booked their annual summer jaunt to the South West so the odds are stacked in our favour i’d say.

But like everything at the moment, nothing is guaranteed. This is why it’s even more important than ever to book direct with the owners. For one simple reason – we CARE. We care about our business, we care about our customers and we care about our reputation.

We are a small family business. No bureaucracy, no form filling, no claims forms. If you drop us an email or pick up the phone you’ll be speaking to either me or my mum (Janet!). It’s really as simple as that. We won’t mess you around and we won’t put you on hold for hours.

If you choose to come and visit us (and we hope you will!) then please book direct for the best service possible. All bookings made in 2021 are covered under our flexible bookings policy.

If you can’t visit us due to any Covid related issues then you can move your holiday to later in the year. We are also not asking for balance payments until we have a clear message from the government that we can open.

What’s more…despite a HUGE increase in demand we have decided to freeze our prices for the second year running. Are we mad? Probably…but we will always run our business in a way that we think is fair to you, our customers.

SO what are you waiting for, book today 🙂

Earlier this week I asked on our stories what is everyone looking forward to the most when they can eventually make it down to Devon. Hands down the most popular answer was GO TO THE BEACH!!

We’re really lucky here @coastalcabins. The stunning South West Coast Path is just a mile and a half from our doorstep. There is literally hundreds (630 to be exact) of miles of stunning coastal scenic walks.

There are tonnes of secluded coves within just a few miles of our cabins. Infact all of our cabins are named after them! Berry Bay, Blackpool Mill, Duckpool to name just a few. They are tricky to find, but once you do you’ll be the only ones there.

Alternatively the nearest easy to access beach is Hartland Quay. Just 2 and a half miles from your door you’ll find one of the most breathtaking views i’ve ever seen. There also a car park, facilities, small shop and the best bit – a pub!

Travel a bit further afield and within a 20-30min drive you’ll find wide expanses of sand. The National Trust beach of Sandy Mouth is the closest and boasts over a mile of golden sands together with a fab beach cafe.

Other great finds include Summerleaze, Crooklets and Widemouth in Bude. Or drive North up the Atlantic Highway to find Westward Ho! and Instow. Up a bit further and you’ll stumble across Saunton, Croyde, Woolacoombe, Putsborough. The list goes on!

What’s your favourite North Devon/North Cornwall beach?

Come and see them all for yourself.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

We are of course currently closed at Coastal Cabins and will remain so until we are told we are allowed to re-open. We’re hoping for Friday 2nd April 🤞.

We are however still taking bookings for later this year. With talk of long self funded 😳 stays in quarantine hotels it looks like 2021 could be the year of the staycation (again!).

Bookings are coming in earlier than usual, in particular for the school holiday weeks. We also have quite a few people who were due to visit last year and moved to this year instead. So if you are thinking of visiting then please do contact us soon as we’d hate you to miss out!

We also have a very flexible booking policy which means that if due to Covid-19 you cannot travel to us then you can reschedule your stay to later this year (2021). There are no charges for moving your booking.

Any questions at all then drop us a message and we’ll be happy to help!

** Please note that due to the ongoing Covid situation we are not currently taking group bookings.

A lot of grandparents won’t have seen their grandchildren much at all over the past year or so. Cora is nearly 5 months old now and she’s barely seen anyone apart from us and the Sainsbury’s delivery man!

By April it is expected that all over 50s will be vaccinated! What better way to celebrate than a holiday at Coastal Cabins with Grandma and Grandad. Give them the opportunity to catch up on all the missed time with the kids whilst you get a much needed break. It’s win win!

We have two types of Cabin. Our Family Cabins sleep up to 4 people in a Kingsize bed and bunk beds. Our Couples Cabins sleep up to 2 adults and 2 small children with a Kingsize bed and a small sofa bed. So you could even let them have a sleepover in Grandmas cabin for the night!

Welcombe Mouth (Family Cabin) and Widemouth Bay (Couples Cabin) are directly next door to each other so would be a perfect choice when holidaying with grandparents.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Check out this amazing new video of Coastal Cabins Glamping and our stunning location in North Devon! This was made by the hugely talented Tansey family @mprofessionalphotography.

Here’s what they had to say about their stay @coastalcabins 🥰

“We’ve loved every minute @coastalcabins ! Watching this video and thinking back to those memories fills us with such joy! We absolutely loved our stay and will be back as soon as we can!

The cabins are super comfortable and beautifully decorated! They have everything you need for a family getaway! The decking area outside is perfect for cooking up a BBQ whilst the sun sets in front of you! 🌅 There’s a great central field in the middle of all the cabins where the kids can play together. We loved watching the kids all playing football after their dinner! ⚽️ Coastal cabins is the perfect base for exploring all the stunning coastlines and hidden treasures of North Devon 🙂

Love from the Tansey’s ✨❤

Well doesn’t this all feel very familiar? The shops are shut, pubs and restaurants are closed but….the sun is out! Yippee! I don’t know about you, but seeing the sunshine again makes makes everything seem ok.

During the first lockdown I made it my mission to #getoutdoors as much as possible. The sun definitely makes that easier, but i’ve also bought ALL the waterproofs in preparation for the long winter ahead of us. A bit of rain isn’t going to stop me from getting out the house!

My plan is to carry on exploring our beautiful area and sharing it with you all throughout lockdown 2.0. My sidekick Paige is now at school, but now i’ve got our new addition Cora coming along for the ride.

Earlier this week we took a little trip over to Woolacombe. Dip down into the village and through the other side up to Marine Drive car park. Sand and sea as far as the eye can see! Park up and explore the South West Footpath or continue down onto the beach itself. It’s very family friendly and suitable for a sturdy pushchair (I took the running buggy).

After a stroll head back up and visit the Porthole cafe (open for takeaway in lockdown!). Perched right at the top of Marine Drive with amazing views over the beach it’s a must visit place. The sandwiches and salads are brilliant and the sausage rolls are the best i’ve ever had! What’s even better is that if you order a takeaway coffee you can still have it in a proper ceramic mug (just drop it back into them when you’re done!).

Woolacombe is about an hours drive from Coastal Cabins and there’s plenty in the area for a great day trip. Stay @coastalcabins and explore our area. There are now just 2 cabins left for Easter weekend so be quick.

This was my second attempt at crabbing (see Ilfracombe post for my first failed attempt!). What I learnt this time was do make sure you check the tide times before going. No sea = no crabs. Sounds pretty obvious really doesn’t it?

Luckily we didn’t come to Appledore just to go crabbing. We had a lovely catch up with grandma and grandad and sauntered along the stunning quayside with an obligatory ice cream in hand.

Appledore is the epitomy of quaint. It’s an old fishing village with a maze of winding cobbled streets and pretty pastel painted houses. The village is perched where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet, opposite the village of Instow (another firm favourite!).

It’s the perfect spot for life’s simple seaside pleasures. Crabbing, boat trips, cream teas, fish and chips with a view and a splattering of independent and quirky shops selling trinkets and arts.

The pubs are pretty darn good too! A trip to the Royal George is a must (great food!) and The Seagate is another one to try too.

Every year in September they also host the award winning Appledore Book Festival which attracts some seriously big names. As we write this they still plan to go ahead with the event for 2020!

Appledore is a 20min drive from Coastal Cabins and definitely worth visiting during your stay with us. It is also very close to the stunning beach at Westward Ho!, the town of Bideford, and the pretty village of Instow.

We still have some limited availability @CoastalCabins for September.

It’s a controversial topic that people in the South West can get very hot under the collar about. The ‘Jam First/Cream First’ debate is one that will always live on! Personally I’d go for cream, then jam, then a bit more cream. You can never have too much clotted cream 😂

This lovely specimen of a Devon cream tea is from @pattardrestaurant. Saunter just 10mins down the pretty narrow lanes towards Hartland from @coastalcabins and you’ll stumble upon this hidden gem.

Traditional devon barn from the outside, and Scandinavian chic inside it’s the perfect pit stop offering lunches, cream teas and evening meals Wednesday to Sunday.

I could have eaten everything on the menu (#eatingfortwo), but I opted for bubble and squeak topped with the best ham hock i’ve ever tasted. And just LOOK at that raspberry chocolate cheesecake brownie.

Child friendly and right on the doorstep! Win win. Be sure to #bookahead as once the word gets out this place is sure to book up quick!

We are fully booked @coastalcabins for August but there a still a few spaces for a September escape or 2021 holiday.

If you’ve seen the news over the past few days then you’d be led to believe that every beach in the country is full to bursting point. If you are looking for peace and seclusion then our advice would be to avoid the big well known sandy expanses, and head to the smaller rockier coves.

All of our cabins @coastalcabins are named after local coves in the Hartland area. There are so many stunning beaches and beauty spots nearby. Admittedly they are harder to get to, and none will have facilities like public toilets, lifeguards or cafes. But i’d choose quiet and calm over that any day (pandemic or no pandemic!).

There are some excellent resources online to help you discover these spots. We’d recommend the Hartland Peninsula website (www.hartlandpeninsula.co.uk/beaches-beauty-spots-2), and also Ordnance Survey (www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/). The South West Coast Path site also has a handy interactive map showing coastal car parks, public toilets and great walks (www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk)

We are fully booked @coastalcabins until 7th September. Late summer is a great time to visit. The weather is often fab and it’s lovely and quiet!

Well a more appropriate title would be ‘attempted crabbing in Ilfracombe!’ Now before you judge me on my awful crab finding skills, this was my first time crabbing. It turns out i’m not very good at it. I even asked the nice lady at the fishing stand for some tips…but alas still no crabs, much to Paige’s disappointment. So we cheered ourselves up with yet MORE ice cream. Thank god for ice cream.

Ilfracombe itself is a town full of old fashioned seaside charm and some pretty stunning scenery. It hasn’t always had the best reputation, but it’s steadily growing as a unique and quirky place to visit. There are some brilliant independent shops, cafe and gallery’s.

A few favourites include @annieandtheflint for great coffee and cakes to die for by @rollingpinsandnonsticktins. @florashouseilfracombe is a fab new childrens clothing store. For cool homewares try Nest. Or if you’re in the market for a new picture then there are some lovely galleries such as @echobeachgallery or Driftwood.

A couple of other must visit spots in Ilfracombe are the famous @tunnelsbeaches , the harbour, Damien Hirst’s breathtaking 20m high ’Verity’ sculpture and also the tiny but perfectly formed @ilfracombeaquarium.

On my to do list (when I’m not so pregnant!) is also one of the many boat trips out of the harbour. Dolphin spotting is a regular thing! @ilfracombeseasafari

Ilfracombe is about an hours drive from Coastal Cabins. It’s worth a day trip and can be combined with other places nearby such as the award winning Woolacombe or Saunton beaches.

For anyone that can travel in September I would highly recommend it. Devon is lovely in the late summer. The weather is often just as good as in the peak of the summer. But the beaches, pubs, attractions, traffic, everything is generally much quieter. Plus it’s also cheaper (shh don’t tell everyone!).

The sea is also nice and warm after being heated up throughout the summer. A good excuse to try your hand at surfing or bodyboarding!

We still have some cabins available for late summer 2020 @Coastalcabins from Monday 31st August onwards throughout September.

Over the weekend we met up with some friends at Widemouth Bay. It’s a stunning coastline and beach just a few miles outside of the fab seaside town of Bude in Cornwall. Just a 25min drive from @coastalcabins it’s a lovely way to while away a day.

Follow the A39 ‘Atlantic Highway’ south across the Cornish border and you’ll see Widemouth signposted on your right. Just before that turning is the perfect place to stop of a morning coffee and cake. @theweirbistro is a modern cafe with lots of great facilities for little ones. There’s a huge lake, ponies to stroke and a handy outside play area to let them burn off some energy whilst you sit in the sun with a proper Cappucino (the lemon drizzle cake was yummy too!)

Jump in the car and just over a mile further and you’ll reach the breathtaking coast of Widemouth Bay. It’s a huge sandy beach with some seriously good surf from the Atlantic Ocean. Perfect for all ages there are also miles of rock pools to explore.

There are a number of good restaurants dotted along this stretch. We opted for @elements.bude with its amazing views and tantalising Italian menu. Excellent stone baked pizzas, tasty pasta dishes and a good selection on the kids menu too.

Make sure you #bookahead as places can get busy in the peak, and restaurants have less tables available due to Covid restrictions.

We are now fully booked @coastalcabins until 31st August, but why not book a break for September (much quieter and often the weather is fab!), or #planahead for next year.

When a cancellation popped up for a 4 night stay @coastalcabins just 2 days after we were allowed to open, I booked us in. I didn’t even have to think twice. I was SO looking forward to this little break for our family, and it didn’t disappoint!

We really packed it all in. The first place on my list had to be checking out the sunset at Hartland Quay. With breathtaking cliffs and view to die for it’s my favourite place on earth.

We picked up a takeaway Fish and Chips from The Shamrock in the village on our first night. After 4 months of cooking every night this was some much needed respite!

A trip to the stunning fishing village of Clovelly on our first day, exploring the cobbled lanes and breathtaking waterfall. Working up an appetite for an amazing lunch at The Farmers Arms in Woolsery just up the road.

Day two and we explored Hartland Abbey, otherwise known as Mallory Towers if you watch CBBC! The walled gardens are stunning and a stroll to the private beach is not to be missed.

Despite the weather, on Day 3 we explored the beautiful Sandymouth Beach and scoffed Cornish ice creams from the National Trust Cafe with views of the vast Atlantic Ocean.

We cooked up mini feasts in our little cabin kitchenette. Paige devoured her first massaman curry, and Howard even managed to rustle up a full English!

Our last day was Paige’s 4th Birthday. We decorated our cabin whilst she slept with more pink and unicorns than you can imagine! I’m pretty sure it’ll be a birthday to remember – for all 3 of us 🥰

Now I’m just waiting for someone else to cancel so that we can do it all again 😂

If you haven’t booked yet then do hurry. We are now fully booked until 28th August in all cabins.

After 4 months of cooking every single night, one thing I was really looking forward to during our little break at Coastal Cabins was having someone else cook for me! Here’s a little guide of local pubs, restaurants and cafes.

Firstly I should say that it really depends on what you are after. Good pub grub on your doorstep, or something more for a special occasion. So before heading to these places please do check their websites/Facebook/Instagram and have a look at the menus.

In Hartland village (1.5 miles) there are 3 pubs, The Hart, The Kings Arms and the Anchor. They are all friendly local pubs, however The Hart does swing it for me as there’s a lovely little garden with a new children’s play area. There is also The Shamrock for quick takeaway fish and chips. Hartland Quay is just outside the village and has a stunning location for a meal with a view if you eat outside. It is very relaxed.

Pattard Kitchen Restaurant is a fancier restaurant within walking distance of the cabins but it has new owners and only re-opened yesterday. The menu looks nice and I’m looking forward to trying it out!

Slightly further afield take a look at The Farmers Arms in Woolsery (see my ‘our holiday’ highlights), The Hoops Inn at Horns Cross, The Old Smithy Inn at Welcombe. All within a 10-15 min drive.

There is a good Thai in Westward Ho called Morans (no kids in the evenings), or the Pig on the Beach is a good seafront pub.

Just around the corner in Appledore The George and The Seagate are also both lovely. Just over the water in Instow try The Boathouse or The Instow Arms for beach views.

Just a few daytime cafes worth a mention are Johns Deli in both Appledore and Instow, the Coffee Cabin in Appledore, the Glorious Oyster beach cabin in Instow. The Fremington Quay Cafe (good for bike rides on the Tarka Trail).

Do bear in mine that you definitely need to #bookahead this summer as all pubs and restaurants have less availability due to lower table numbers. There are so many more – particularly also in the Bude/North Cornwall direction but I think this is enough to get you started!

I hope this helps everyone have a well deserved break from having to come up with yet another dinner for the kids!

If you haven’t booked yet then do hurry. We are now fully booked until 28th August in all cabins.

So apparently most children won’t be going back to school until September at the earliest – eek!

Are you running out of ideas how to keep them busy? My hugely talented step-daughter Beth (@bethanykdesign) has made these fab colouring in sheets of our cabins.  I’m actually in love with them and plan to print off 100 for Paige to colour in! Hopefully that should reduce the constant shouts of ‘mummmmyyyy i’m bored’.

Maybe you’re coming to visit us later in the summer? If so it’s time to start getting the whole family excited! Or maybe you just want some cute pictures to decorate the house.

Just CLICK on the pictures below to DOWNLOAD and PRINT.

Make sure you send us your completed artwork, we’d love to see them!

See you soon ??

What’s better after a tough day at the beach than an hour in our Wild Spa Hot Tub area?  Rest your tired feet and let the 26 spa jets massage away your aches and pains. Sit in the ‘Captain’s Seat’ and succumb to the exclusive 15 point ultrablast master massage jet.

Add to the mix some stunning views towards the Atlantic and a glass of cold bubbly and you’ll be in holiday heaven.

This facility can be hired for £40ph max 2 people, or £60ph max 6 people. Booking slots are limited and must be made prior to arrival (and at least 48 hours before your chosen session).

*Minimum age is 16 years – babysitting service also available!*

Our cabins are currently closed but they are all freshly painted and sparking clean ready for when we’re allowed to re-open.  Book now for later in the year or 2021 for #somethingtolookforwardto

Back in February and before most of us had heard of Covid-19, Paige and I took a little day trip to Bucks Mills. Despite being teeny tiny it’s one of my favourite places. Here’s a sneak peak of somewhere to visit when this is all over. #somethingtolookforwardto

Hidden away down a little lane off the A39 you’ll find Bucks Mills. Not many people know this stunning hamlet even exists. The sign off the road is small and unassuming and so is Bucks Mills – but’s that’s the beauty of it.

Untouched for centuries, this village feels like stepping back in time. The narrow winding road is carved into the hillside with lush trees all around. Park up in the (free!) car park and meander down the lane past a collection of picturesque cottages.

A babbling river follows the road which eventually cascades down the clifftop to join the sea. After a short walk downhill you’ll catch a glimpse of water, which soon opens up to a breathtaking view of a vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

A few minutes after and you’ll find yourself on Bucks Mills beach. With miles of uninterrupted rugged coastline it’s not difficult to find your own spot of heaven here.

There’s no pub, there’s no shop – just you and nature at its most raw and uncommercial.

Bucks Mills is just 15 mins from Coastal Cabins. We’re closed at the moment, but book now for later this year or next and visit this magical spot:

www.coastal-cabins.com

P.s. There may not be a pub at Bucks Mills, but just up the road in Woolsery is one of the BEST pubs in the area – The Farmers Arms is a must visit!

Recently we spotted this great article in The Telegraph entitled ‘Britain’s 20 most beautiful hidden beaches’. The Hartland Peninsula is peppered with numerous hidden beaches, some that only the locals know about!

The beauty of this is that even on the hottest day of the year you could be the only person there. Some of these beaches can be hard to get to, and tricky to find but they are WELL worth it.

Coming in at number 3 in the article is the magical gem Speke’s Mill Mouth. If 50 metre waterfalls, clear rock pools and rolling waves are your thing then this is THE place to put on your post lockdown wish list.

Have a read of the full article here:

We are closed at the moment but flexible bookings can be made for later in the year, or #planahead for 2021.

Have you ever heard the saying, when life gives you lemons…make lemonade? So what do you do when you own 10 empty glamping cabins and you’re not allowed to leave your home – you go glamping of course!

This is the adventures of Mr and Mrs Coastal Cabins (mum and dad) having a night away in Hartland Quay Cabin. I’m particularly jealous of the Gin! Anyone else attempting lockdown without any alcohol? ?

Hartland Quay Cabin is a Couples Cabin sleeping up to 2 people in a Kingsize bed, plus up to two small children (max age 6 years) in a small double sofa bed. We also have Family Cabins which sleep 4 people in a Kingsize bed and bunk beds. All cabins have a private deck and stunning views over looking the field or lake.

I don’t know about you but i’d really like to be there right now!

For now we are closed, please stay home and stay safe. Our cabins will be all ready and waiting for you when this is all over. Book now for 2021 here:

If you have any questions at all about our cabins then send us an email or message on social media! #asktheowners

Today, Friday 3rd April was supposed to be the first day of the season for us at Coastal Cabins Glamping. The cabins are all sparkling clean, freshly painted and looking their best, but there’s no one here. It’s a strange feeling, and one that makes us feel sad. But we know that this time will pass.

We’re making the most of our daily exercise walks to really explore our lovely corner of North Devon. Working in this hectic industry we often don’t get time to really appreciate where we live. It really is stunning!

Until we open again we’ll continue to share with you some highlights of our area. Because after all – everyone needs something to look forward to!

If you want to book for later this year then we are still taking bookings. You can book in the knowledge that you’ll be protected by our new ‘Flexible Booking Policy’

www.coastal-cabins.com

Well one thing is for sure, when all this has gone away these cabins are going to look bloody amazing! After 2 weeks of isolation my wonderful parents have managed to paint all the cabins (inside and out), stain all 10 decks, paint the BBQ cabin, wash everything that can be possibly washed, planted lots of lovely new planters…the list goes on.

Nothing like keeping busy to take your mind off this crazy world and everything it has to throw at us at the moment. When this virus buggers off our little cabins will be SO ready to welcome you all to stay.

But for now, please stay at home and please stay safe. Let’s beat this together!

We know that you may be feeling uncertain about making new travel plans right now, and we want to provide you with some flexibility to make planning a little easier.

Between now and April 30th 2020 (this may be extended at a later date), when you book with us directly, you’ll have the option to rebook your reservation if your plans change.

We also want to let you know that we are taking extra steps to protect the health & safety of our guests. We already clean our cabins to very strict standards, however we are also updating our cleaning protocols with guidance from the government.

This is not an easy time for anyone at the moment and we hope this goes some way to alleviate any concerns you may have about travelling. For now it is very much business as usual. As you know we are small family run business, in a beautiful rural coastal location where you can get some good fresh air and a break.

Please continue to come and see us!

Best wishes,

Melissa, Janet and John
Coastal Cabins Glamping

Terms & Conditions:
* Any direct bookings made between now and April 30th 2020 can be re-booked for a later date if your plans change due to COVID-19.
* This date of April 30th may be extended and we will review it closer to the time.
* Guests can rebook for any available dates up until the end of September 2021.
* If the value of the new reservation is higher, the guest must pay the difference.
* Guests have until 48 hours before their check-in time to cancel their reservation and rebook.
* However if you can give us more notice than this we would be very grateful as we are a small family business. The more notice we have the more chance we have of re-letting your cabin.
* These flexible terms are valid temporarily due to the current travel situation.

In light of the government announcement yesterday surrounding the Coronavirus epidemic we will not be opening as planned on Friday 3rd April.

We are a small family business, and this will hit us hard (i’m afraid the insurance companies are failing to support us). However we appreciate that it is also likely to impact every single person in this country. We must do our moral duty to try and contain this horrible virus by closing our doors for now. Our absolute priority is the health and wellbeing of our guests, ourselves and our country.

We are still offering those of you who have booked with us this year the option to postpone your holiday to a future date of your choice. These restrictions on movement have been put into place for the next 3 weeks, however we expect it will go on for longer than this. We plan to open on Thursday 7th May, however this will of course be re-assesed closer to the time. We will only open when it is safe to do so.

We will continue to keep you updated through social media.

Thank you for your understanding. I can assure you this is not something that we have decided on lightly.

We look forward to seeing you when all of this is over. Stay safe and well.

Melissa, Janet and John
Coastal Cabins Glamping

That’s what we do best at Coastal Cabins. Whilst everywhere feels a bit crazy at the moment why not take a few days (or weeks!) away from it all in your own secluded cabin.

Go straight from your car to your cabin and enjoy what North Devon does best. Fresh air, stunning walks and secluded (often empty) beaches. We’re about as far away from the crowds that you can get.

Our cabins are well spaced out in a large field so you can have your own little piece of calm. Each cabin has its own en suite with shower and toilet, heating to keep you snug, and a Kitchenette – so you don’t even have to leave! (All of the main supermarkets deliver to us.) Although with the stunning countryside and breathtaking coast on your doorstep we think you’ll want to explore.

We understand that we are living in uncertain times. Because of this we have introduced a new Flexible Bookings policy so you can book with the confidence that you won’t lose out.

We still have a few cabins available over the Easter break, so book now!

This is the perfect secluded spot to spend some quality time with your nearest and dearest.

**COASTAL CABINS Q&A**

We recently had a Q&A session via our Instagram stories.  We had so many great questions asked!  This is a must read for anyone who is interested in booking a stay at Coastal Cabins Glamping.  Please do let me know if you have any other questions at all and I’ll be happy to help!

Melissa x

Who came up with the design for the cabins?

That would be my clever old Dad! You won’t find another one the same in the world!

Looks fab! Are you dog friendly?

We love all animals, but I’m afraid we don’t allow dogs in the cabins.

Is summer filling up fast? Thinking about booking for July.

Easter and Half Term are getting busy but there is still space in July.  Drop me a message and I can help! Or take a look here at our live availability:

Book now

Can you fit a travel cot in any of the cabins with the sofa bed in use too?

It would be a tight squeeze.  It would fit ok without using the sofa bed.  A Family Cabin would work better.

Are the cabins child friendly?

Yes very!  You can hire a Family Cabin with bunk beds, or a Couples Cabin with a sofa bed (suitable for 2 kids under 6).

Do you have any baby kit like cots or highchairs to hire (if babies are allowed that is?)

We love babies! We have a baby kit with lots of handy things you can borrow.  Just make sure you request when you book.

Do you have any options for families of 6?

I’m afraid our cabins are really for a maximum of 4 people.  For 6 you would need 2 cabins.

What’s the difference between sleeping 2+2 or 4?

A Family Cabins sleeps up to 4 people of any age.

A Couples Cabin sleeps up to 2 adults and 2 small children (max age 6).

They are both the same size but have different beds.

Do you have any cabins suitable for 1 parent and 1 child?

Yes all of our cabins would be suitable.  All cabins have King size beds and either bunk beds or small sofa beds.

What else is there to do nearby with children in tow?

There is SO MUCH to do in North Devon.  It’s an area very geared up for families on holiday.  Take a look at our dedicated activities page on our website here:

Activities

Do you allow user 6s to sleep in the bunk beds is used to them at home?

Yes if your child is happy then so are we.  There is a guard across the top bunk and you can borrow guards for the bottom bunk if needed too.

If you’ve ever been to the stunning beaches of Saunton Sands, Croyde or Woolacoombe then you would have passed through the ‘village’ of Braunton. But Braunton is not just a place to pass through, it’s a destination in its own right.

Crowned ‘the biggest village in the UK’ there’s plenty to do. It’s a bustling hub due to its prime location right in-between the market town of Barnstaple and the breathtaking North Devon coastline.

Here’s my insiders guide to the best places to visit in Braunton:

Cafes ☕️
Braunton is renowned for its cafe culture with a great selection to choose from. Try Wild Thyme Cafe for amazing healthy meals and shakes (great vegan offering!). Visit The Worx Braunton for people spotting in the centre of the village. Or head to Heartbreak Hotel for the best coffee in the area and doughnuts to die for (chamomile, chocolate orange, biscotti, vanilla custard to name just a few!).

Restaurants ?
With an all year round clientelle (Braunton isn’t just a tourist mecca), the village has attracted a number of great restaurants. The Riverside is a popular staple with excellent food and a constantly changing seasonal menu. For authentic delicious Thai food try The Siam Bistro. Squires Fish & Chip Restaurant, Braunton, North Devon is also infamous for its delicious fish and chips!

Bars ?
A recent addition is AYKA Rum Bar. With over 80 rums on the menu, and plenty of non-rum choices too, it’s a popular newcomer to the village. @sqbarandrestaurant is at the heart of the village. With cocktails, local beers and a very reasonably priced good food menu it’s a firm favourite with everyone.

Shops ?
The opening of the Wanderlust Life Jewellery shop in 2018 put me constantly in my overdraft. To say I love it would be the understatement of the year. A stunning selection of minimalistic jewellery inspired by a love of travel and nature. Just go and see for yourself. Throw into the mix the grade-A funky health food shop Nourish Stores, a super cute deli full of local produce Fine Foods of Braunton, homewares store @purehomeshop and gift/home store Kittiwakes, sweet shop Benny’s of Braunton and you’ll easily while away an afternoon.

Oh and I nearly forgot – if you need ANYTHING relating to surfing then you are in THE place. Tiki Surf Shop is excellent, along with Board Barnand Surfed Out. If you’re looking for a bargain (who’s not?) then head to the Tiki and SaltrockSoul outlet at Velator for some brilliant buys.

Beaches ?
Braunton isn’t directly on the coast, however just a short walk and you can explore the wonders of Braunton Burrows, one of the largest sand dune areas in the country. Crow Point is the real locals secret (shh!). Hidden away down a narrow toll road is where Braunton meets the sea. A great estuary beach that joins up with Saunton Sands at the tip.

Can you tell I love Braunton? Oh and if you want to wear out the little ones whilst enjoying some brilliant food, then The Quay Indoor Soft Play and cafe is a must visit!

So i’ll see you there!

Travelling with a new baby can be incredibly daunting. The thought of staying in a different place and having to bring everything including the kitchen sink can be super stressful. We know exactly how that feels. But it shouldn’t stop you from taking that break away that you really deserve – perhaps now more than ever!

We’ve put together a baby kit for new parents to borrow when they come and stay at Coastal Cabins Glamping. Just let us know which items you’d like to use during your stay with us and we’ll make sure it’s ready for you in your cabin when you arrive.

The kit includes*:

High chair
Travel cot
Bottle Steriliser
Bottle Warmer
Changing mat
Baby bath
Electric switch covers
Nightlights
Changing mat
Bed guard
Travel black out blind

Pop over to Instagram @coastalcabins and look on our stories (Baby Kit in highlights) for a video of our Baby Kits!

We can also give lots of tips about where is best to visit with a baby. Which is the most buggy friendly beach? Which is the best soft play for under 2s? Which beach has baby changing facilities? We’ll take the worry away…

And if you’d love a break one evening – we can highly recommend our new babysitting service.

Book a cabin now and have a rest:

This is one of my favourite places in the whole wide world…and not wanting to show off but i’ve been to quite a few places.

Hartland Quay is simply magical. It’s one of those places that once you’ve been to you will absolutely never forget. It just stays in your soul and keeps on pulling you back.

It doesn’t even matter what the weather is like. In the wild winter watching the storms from the cliffs is better than any Netflix box set – just don’t get too close to the edge mind.. It’s not hard to see why there have been countless shipwrecks along those jagged rocks.

In the summer the wildflowers cover the clifftops with hot pinks and bright yellows. When the tide is out you can take a stroll down the old quayside and set up camp on a patch of secluded sand.

Oh and there’s a pub. A real proper Devon pub with proper ale and proper chips. No amount of fancy mediterranean spritzer bars can beat that.

Hartland Quay is just a couple of miles down the road from Coastal Cabins. So what are you waiting for, visit now and I can guarantee Hartland Quay will draw you back again and again..

Did you know that at Coastal Cabins we have a super relaxing hot tub area that you can hire?

After a long journey or a day on the beach rest those tired feet and let the 26 spa jets massage away your aches and pains. Sit in the ‘Captain’s Seat’ and succumb to the exclusive 15 point ultrablast master massage jet.

Add to the mix some stunning views towards the Atlantic and a glass of cold bubbly and you’ll be in holiday heaven!

We also offer a mobile spa service where you can enjoy a range of spa treatments from the comfort of your cabin. Colleen and Hazel offer many styles of Massages, Eve Taylor Facials, Manicures and Pedicures.

The wild spa facility can be hired for £40ph max 2 people, or £60ph max 6 people. Booking slots are limited and must be made prior to arrival (and at least 48 hours before your chosen session). The minimum age is 16 years.

Spa treatments are subject to a £60 minimum spend per call out.

We celebrated the end of the 2 storms with a stroll around from Saunton Beach towards Croyde. It definitely blew away the cobwebs! In the bottom picture you can just about see the Hartland headland which is where Coastal Cabins is located!

Along the way we stumbled upon this breathtaking house. Did anyone watch the Grand Designs episode that featured this building? It was one i’ll definitely never forget. So sad to see that many years later it still hasn’t been finished.

Anyone with very deep pockets fancy a project?

We finally made it out of the house! The pre-child me would have fully embraced the idea of a whole weekend at home reading the Sunday Times and eating takeaway. However with a 3 year old, Storm Dennis is very different thing.

Today we braved the weather and made it out of the house to visit The Big Sheep. With the promise of baby sheep and soft play it wasn’t exactly a hard sell. The lamb in this video was 5 minutes old!

Stay at Coastal Cabins this Easter and you’ll be in for a real treat!

We have teamed up with the award winning family attraction The Big Sheep to offer 5 families FREE entrance!

Just 20 mins drive from Coastal Cabins, The Big Sheep offers a superb family day out, whatever the weather! Toddlers will love the soft play and meeting baby animals in the animal barn. Older kids will be desperate to try the Rampage Rollercoaster and Battlefield Live. Oh and we nearly forgot to mention there’s an on site brewery and gin distillery.

What’s more, on arrival in your cabin you’ll also find Easter eggs for the kids and a special treat for the grown ups too.

If that’s not quite enough of a chocolate fix then there’s also 30,000 chocolate eggs hidden around The Big Sheep to find too!

We are truly honoured to have been featured in this excellent article by Rachel Dixon for the The Guardian.

If you are looking to book an amazing family holiday then you must have a read of this:

Coastal Cabins are in great company! I can also personally recommend Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor which isn’t too far from us. Nice to see that The Guardian are also fans of The BIG Sheep Family Attraction too – who doesn’t love a sheep race!?

Well this weekend has been an absolute gem. Crisp sunny days full of sunshine and adventures.

You can’t beat North Devon in the summer time. In all honesty for a few years we used to escape every January in search of warmth! But it turns out that Winter in Devon has its special moments too.

We packed it in today – a visit to #instow and a yummy brunch @johnsdelidevon, followed by a trip to #croyde via the stunning views of #saunton and finishing up with a trip to the park and ice creams at @theoldcreamshop

As the name would suggest Butchers Row @butchersrow is a street that used to house a whopping 33 local butchers shops.

It was a thriving local shopping area, however the supermarkets moved in and one by one the butchers shops closed their doors permanently.  Fast forward 10 years or so and Butchers Row has been given a new lease of life.

The butchers are gone, but the food theme remains!  Every beautiful grade 2 listed unit is now occupied by local food makers.

There’s a shop for every foodie craving: wood fired pizza @stonedfood, stunning cupcakes @thecupcakerybarnstaple, an asian feast @eatatblock, a local cheese board @southwestcheese, an artisan sarnie @ArtiSaniBarnstaple and so many more!

Take the super hot chilli challenge at the latest store to open @northdevonchillies!

This unique street can be found in the centre of the market town of Barnstaple.  Just a 30min drive from Coastal Cabins Glamping, Barnstaple is a great day out with plenty to keep all ages entertained.

Visit Butchers Row on your trip to Coastal Cabins.  Book here:

I normally try and keep our local reviews well…local. Being a good 2.5 hours from Coastal Cabins, Bath is far from local. However technically Bath is still in the Westcountry so i’m squeezing this one in because Bath is BATH.

I love Bath. I lived there for my formative University years and it’s just so magical. In the winter it’s freezing, and in the summer it’s packed full of tourists – but despite this I just keep going back.
We managed a little break away and stayed @thebirdbath_ A truly bonkers and amazing hotel which I would highly recommend. With dinner at their sister hotel @no15gp Just LOOK at those toilets!

We only had 24 hours but managed to fit in the @bathskylineparkrun with lovely views across the city. Then across to @royalcrescent_hotel for afternoon tea followed by a few hours browsing the many inspirational interiors shops – check out @grahamandgreen , @OKA, @indiajanehome and @haydesign
Now i’m off to plan our next visit…

If you’re travelling down to Coastal Cabins Glamping from London or Midlands (or anywhere really!) then why not stop off in Bath on the way.

If you are travelling south to Coastal Cabins Glamping then this is a slight detour, but well worth it!

Just off the M5 near Exeter you’ll find the food lover’s haven of @dartsfarm.  The award winning farm shop is literally brimming with home grown veg, organic breads, local wines, artisan cheeses, meats (@dartsfarmbutchers) and so much more.  And of course there’s a cafe – a bloody good cafe!

But there’s more to @dartsfarm than seriously tasty food.  Under the same roof you can also browse luxury home and lifestyle products from brands like @AGAOfficial and @FiredEarth.

It’s also the perfect stop off if the kids need to let off a bit of steam.  With a huge playground (free!) on site it was a welcome sight for my 3 year old.  The resident pigs, cows and llamas are worth a visit too!

Darts Farm is 1.5 hours from Coastal Cabins Glamping, just outside the town of Topsham near Exeter.  It’s a great stop off en route, or part of a day trip to the Exeter area.

My oh my Bideford…haven’t you grown! Having been to school in Bideford I always had an element of nostalgia for the town. But my memories tended to focus on sticky bars that (thankfully) no longer exist.

I thought it was about time I went back during daylight hours, and had a really good adventure in my old ‘home’ town – and i’m seriously glad I did!

Bideford is most definitely worth a visit. Pick a lovely sunny day, park up next to the stunning Victoria Park and wander into the town along the riverside.

Walk up Bridgeland Street and hang a left down Mill Street and this is where the real adventure starts. Almost immediately you’ll stumble upon my new favourite shop Sunshine & Snow. An eclectic collection of homewares and gifts in a beautiful setting that feels straight out of London or Brighton.

If you can prise yourself away then continue your stroll and pop into Hip & Waisted for a bespoke handmade belt. Browse Shore Drift for coastal nicknacks, then take a left and explore the nooks and crannies of Josie’s Interiors Ltd.

Don’t forget a quick trip to Hiron & Son’s Artisan Butchers. Pick up some seriously good steak to cook in the BBQ cabin later that evening when you get back to Coastal Cabins base camp.

Saunter back to where you started via The Italian Kitchen for the best pizza lunch. Before you go, let the kids run off some steam in Victoria Park whilst you grab a coffee and patisserie at the french restaurant Café du Parc overlooking the park. If it’s a sunny day make sure you bring swimwear, the splash pool is one not to miss!

For those travelling without kids also check out Number Eight Restaurant for some seriously fine fine-dining.

Stay at Coastal Cabins Glamping and check out everything Bideford has to offer. It’s just 15 miles from us.

Are you travelling down the M5 to reach Coastal Cabins this summer?

If you haven’t already discovered the wonders of Gloucester Services then this may actually change your life! After a hot and sweaty trip to the midlands last weekend with our 3 year old, stumbling across this place was like an oasis in the dessert.

Serving only the highest quality local produce, the restaurant is fabulous and did I mention there is an indoor climbing frame/play area for the kiddies? The journey took a lot longer than we planned…but this time it wasn’t because of the traffic jams, but because the other half couldn’t drag me away from the farm shop!

Although Hartland may seem completely undiscovered it is secretly becoming quite famous.   An increasing number of big name production companies are discovering the benefits of the area for filming TV dramas and films.  The latest in line is a new film adaptation of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier staring Lily James and Armie Hammer.

This adaptation is set in 1940 and shows a newly married woman who is struggling with the memory of her husband’s first wife.  This was Alfred Hitchcock’s first Hollywood film and did so well it won the best picture Oscar in 1940.

Hartland Quay in particular is a hive of activity at the moment.  It really is amazing to see the amount of work that goes into creating the film sets.  Here is a picture of the slipway leading down towards the beach.  As you can see there is a brand new boathouse built up on the right hand side.  I am told this is destined to be burnt down in the film!

We’re all looking forward to seeing the Quay turned into a real 1940’s street scene.  Here is the main street in between the hotel and the museum being decorated for the 1940s era.

If you would like to visit the set and maybe catch a glimpse of the filming in action then why not stay at Coastal Cabins Glamping. We still have some availability throughout the summer. Bookings can be made via our site here: https://www.coastal-cabins.com/prices-availability/
